90-Year-Old Woman Rescued From House Fire By Police, Fire Chief: Clinton Township PD

A 90-year-old woman was rescued from a house fire in Clinton Township on Saturday, Oct. 5, authorities said.

At 3 p.m., police reported heavy smoke coming from the front door of the home on 15 Westchester Terrace, the Clinton Township Police Department said in a release. Officer Michael Malanga and Fire Chief Jeff Hedden approached the front door and heard a woman yelling for help from inside the home, authorities said.

Despite heavy smoke inside the residence, they located the 90-year-old woman in the bathroom, trapped in proximity to the flames, police said. Malanga and  Hedden pulled the victim away from the flames, and Malanga was able to carry her to a waiting ambulance, while Hedden retrieved a fire extinguisher from his vehicle and attempted to combat the fire, police said.

The woman was take to a nearby hospital, police said. Her condition is unknown, police said. Malanga was transported to Hunterdon Medical Center, where he was treated for smoke inhalation and released, police said.
